Our girl team rider's opinions on skateboarding's gender diversity issues.

It's 2016 and we still have a major gender diversity issue within skateboarding. While the amount of girls getting into skateboarding is slowly growing due to the amount of brands catering to the need to highlight women's presence within the skateboarding industry, there are still companies and pro skateboarders who still retain the age old opinion that skateboarding is a "male sport", which has greatly discouraged girls gaining an interest in skateboarding across the globe.

Here are several of our girl team rider's opinions on the matter:

Amanda: I don't ever recall skateboarding being a "male-only sport". Sure theres a lot of dudes riding and shredding, but it shouldn't even be the case. Skateboarding should be about the feel of what it's like to ride a board on concrete and finally landing that fucken kickflip after 100 tries, but sadly we live in a skateboarding world where sexism exists and halts progression...

Samantha: I find it funny when people assume that this is the case when I'm actually a better skateboarder than my boyfriend, who's been a pro skater for longer than I am, but he even admits that I shred harder and better than him...

Alicia: I got into skateboarding from a male friend back in high school. While it may be true that it's heavily dominated with guys skating isn't just about it being a man's sport, and a lot of companies just get it wrong when it comes to representing the skate community, especially when girls look up to you as their hero, yet the same girls don't want to get into it because they feel it's right for them.
